Towards construct validity of relational aggression: An examination of the Children’s Social Behavior Scale.

Relational aggression-or behavior intended to harm the relationships of its victims-has been focus interdisciplinary study across developmental, clinical, personality, and social psychology in last several decades. One primary measures used assess relational aggression youth is Children's Social Behavior Scale (CSBS; Crick & Grotpeter, 1995), but despite common usage, construct validity this measure has not comprehensively assessed. In present study, we a multistage framework thoroughly investigate nature six community samples totaling 3,102 their caregivers. We multiple methods map reliability, internal or structural validity, external scale. Through these analyses, found that CSBS Aggression demonstrated strong consistency, test-retest, interrater reliability as well robust single factor structure invariance demographic groups. External analyses positioned within theoretically consistent nomological net including psychopathology, developmental factors. Contrary concerns about self- parent-reports aggression, both parent- youth-report forms scale validity. While validation received inadequate attention psychological literature date, through project, aimed demonstrate how approach may be existing research.
